What are the requirements in order to qualify as a TeenKorean member? |
TeenKorean was originally designed for ethnically Korean teens between the ages of 10 and 13, who speak English but want to learn the Korean language. However, anyone who wishes to study Korean is welcome. In other words, there are no special requirements that you must meet in order to use this service. Nevertheless, a serious determination to study Korean is a good start! |

What is the best way to use TeenKorean? |
With TeenKorean, you study at your own pace and convenience.
You do not need to follow specific schedules or sessions. However, it is certainly recommended that you begin with a personal study plan and schedule in mind. When TeenKorean was first developed, each lesson was designed to take approximately 30 minutes to complete. We recommend that you work on your first lesson and check how long it took you to finish. This way, you can figure out how much time you'll need to spare every day or every week! The next thing, of course, is to make sure and study hard during the time you've set aside. |

Can you describe the study method used by TeenKorean? In what way it is different from other methods? |
Our main concern when first developing TeenKorean was to find the best possible method to help overseas Korean teens learn Korean, while sustaining their interest enough so that they would stick with it. After looking at several surveys and doing some research, we were able to get a good idea what teens between the ages of 10 and 14 need. We looked at their level of proficiency in Korean, hours spent studying and preferred methods of learning. We soon discovered that many teens in this age group possess some level of proficiency in Korean, but that their motivation to study the language is low because they have few opportunities to use it. We concluded that since overseas Koreans have an innate familiarity with the language, it is best to offer them concrete opportunities to make use of not only the grammar and vocabulary, but also the social and cultural background of Korea. Since they already possess this knowledge, we decided that such an approach would be much preferable to step-by-step cumulative study programs. And so, you will find that all lessons on this site are organized by context and function in order to provide students with various practical situations. We offer 50 lessons within three different categories, comprised of situations that may often be encountered by teens of this age group: family, friends, and favorite activities. By allowing students to review a diverse number of situations, when they encounter similar circumstances in real life they will have the appropriate and correct linguistic responses at the ready. |
